My Show Me

This is my Show Me on how I managed to solve 1000 - 724
.....
in this show me it shows the steps I went through to solve the equation.
I hope that when you watch my show me you are able to follow me.

Maths

In maths I am confident that I have achieved at least all of my goals and am now ready to add more.

Over the week I have become more and more alert on how to work with Decimals and Fractions.

This image below show's me working on Decimals, and becoming more confident in being able to understand how to add decimal problems.

Multiplication

This is my working out on Multiplication Problems.

***

- There are 3 eggs in each box, how many eggs are in 2 boxes ?
There are 3 eggs in 1 box. So for 2 boxes there are 6 eggs altogether.

- Each bottle cap cost $2.00. How much does it cost for 6 bottle caps?
2 x 6 = 12. so for 6 bottle caps it is $12.00 altogether.

- Each child has 3 oranges, if there are 4 children. How many oranges are there altogether ?
3 x 4 = 12, so there are 12 oranges altogether.

- Each banana cost $5.00, How much does it cost for 4 banana’s ?
5 x 4 = 20, so altogether it is $20.00 for 4 banana’s.

- Each ticket cost $9.00, How much would it cost for 4 tickets ?
9 x 4 = 36, so for 4 tickets it is $36.00 altogether

My Understanding of Fractions

This is my understanding of what a fraction is

***

What I understand about Fractions :
I understand that a fraction is a part of a whole, that there are two parts to it. The numerator and the denominator.  The numerator is the amount or parts/groups you take away, and the denominator is the amount of groups you divide or share it into.
THREE MAIN WORDS :
Share
Whole

Fractions

This afternoon, I was focusing on what a fraction was.
I am quite happy with the amount of things I had learnt.

This is a snapshot of what I had learnt.

Maths Problem

I have been working on this maths problem
using my basic fact knowledge.

Question : There are 12 boxes of donuts, Each box contains 7 donuts.

How many donuts are there altogether ?

Working Out :
7 x 12 =
***
7 x 10 = 70
7 x 2 = 14
70 + 14 = 84
- Therefore 7 x 12 = 84

I have used Place Value as a Strategy.

Fractions

Last week I did a maths activity on Fractions.
This is what I did.
A) At a fancy dress party.  1/4 of 80 had costumes on.
Show how you worked out how many people had costumes on at the party :
Working out :
4 x 20 = 80
80 ÷ 4 = 20
Answer : There were 20 people in costumes at the fancy dress party.
***
B) 2/3 of the class of 24 students owned cell phones.
Show how to work out how many students owned cell phones.
Working out :
3 x 8 = 24
24 ÷ 3 = 8
1/3 of 24 = 8 and 8 doubled is 16 so 2/3 of 24 is 16.
Answer :  16 students on cell phones.
***
C) There are 180 students. 6/10 of them walk to school.
Show how to work out how many students walk to school.
Working out :
10 x 18 = 180

180 ÷ 10 = 18

Creating a image using Tangrams

Today I have spent my morning using 5 Triangles, 1 Parallelogram and 1 Square. These pieces are called a Tangram.
With these pieces I made up 4 images.

The reason why we had received this activity, was because it was to do with Geometry in Maths.

*****
Here are the 4 images I had put together.

Fraction Problem

3 / 09 / 13 - Tuesday 3rd September 2013

L.I - I am learning about division problems that has a fraction as the answer.
Can you solve my Problem ?

I have 9 apples and I share it between 8 of my friends.

How many apples will each of my friends get ?

Learning Litre's & Millilitres

L.I - I am learning to find out more about
Litres & Millilitres
so that I can record what I have learnt.
- Liquids :
- The words MILLI & LITRE put together make up the word MILLILITRE.
the short ways of writing millilitre and litre is written like this - ml & ltr
- If you collect 20 DROPS of WATER it makes up to 1 MILLILITRE
- A Teaspoon can hold up to 5 MILLILITRES - one full teaspoon can ONLY hold
5 MILLILITRES.
- MILLILITRES are often written as ml ( for short ) so 100 ml is the same as
100 MILLILITRES
- A millilitre is by far NOT ENOUGH for someone who is really thirsty. So then we bring in LITRES.
- A LITRE is just bunches of MILLILITRES put together. In fact 1000 millilitres combined makes 1 WHOLE LITRE.
- This jug  hold exactly 1 LITRE.
- Usually milk, soda and other drinks are sold in ltr’s - LITRES.

Maths

I am learning how to ESTIMATE and to measure water by using LITRES & MILLILITRES.
Learn - learn to estimate how many litres / millilitres we needed to fill our 700 ml -container.
Create - In our group our estimations were -
Latanoa - 6 half a cups
Zheiyna - 7  half a cups
Siniva - 5  half a cups
Meleseini - 4  half a cups

Share -  We have got 2 containers, one is a 700 ml container and the other is a half a cup to fill our 700 ml container. Then in our group we all made an estimation of how many half a cups we need to fill up our container which is 700 ml. We all estimated different amounts. But to be sure we needed to fill our container and count how many half a cups we need to fill our container. We used our 2 timetables to solve our  problem.

My Maths

I have been learning to use - Place Value - to solve my maths problems.

62 - 47 = ?
- 60 - 40 = 20
- 20 - 7 = 13
- 13 + 2 = 15
________________

31 - 19 = ?
- 30 - 10 = 20
- 20 - 9 = 11
- 11 + 1 = 12
________________

61 - 23 =?
- 60 - 20 = 40
- 40 - 3 = 37
- 37 + 1 =  38
